Certificates of Deposit (International CD)
Flexible capital savings options with Certificates of Deposit from Barclays Wealth International
Certificates of Deposit, often referred to as CDs, are Fixed Term Deposits that are common in the United States. Outside the US, these Term Deposits are less widely known, but in the UK the nearest equivalent are Treasury Deposits.
If you want a fixed rate of interest on your savings and don't mind your money being tied up for at least one month, a Treasury Deposit from Barclays Wealth International may be a good option. You can choose from a wide range of currencies and, once the deposit is open, your interest rate remains fixed for the term of the deposit.
- Minimum deposit of £10,000 for term deposits of six months or more
- Shorter terms available for deposits of £50,000 or more
- Attractive interest rates linked to balance and term
- Available in sterling, US dollars, euros and other major currencies
Fixed term deposits are particularly attractive if you wish to invest substantial sums for fixed periods. Available for any period ranging from 1 week (7 days) to 5 years, they can be tailored to suit your cash flow circumstances and offer guaranteed interest rates1.
Capital security
With Treasury Bonds, your capital is secure provided you leave it alone for the duration of the term. There is usually a penalty for withdrawing money prior to the maturity date.
Fixed rate interest
The rates of interest with International CDs or Treasury Deposits will of course vary according to the amount of your deposit and the duration of the term. The interest rate will however remain fixed for the term of the deposit.

CD maturity periods
By taking advantage of attractive fixed rates, you can be certain of your returns at the end of the term. You may want to arrange that the term of your account ends at a specific date, for example a house completion or major foreign exchange transaction.
Time deposit options
The shortest term available for a Treasury Deposit is just 1 week (7 days), for which the minimum deposit is £100,000. There is no maximum deposit. In practice, the maximum duration for a Treasury Deposit is five years.
